This Brazilian patient presented 31 hours after having been bitten on his face by a Loxosceles spp. spider.

Spiders are mostly harmless to man, but two genera, the “Black Widow” spiders, Latrodectus spp., and the “Recluse” spiders, Loxosceles spp., inflict poisonous, proteolytic and hemolytic venomous bites. Note the periorbital facial swelling.
