This thin film Giemsa stained micrograph reveals growing P. vivax, P. malariae, and P. ovale trophozoites.
As the parasite increases in size, the ring morphology of the early trophozoite disappears, and becomes what is referred to as a mature trophozoite, which undergoes further transformation maturing into a schizont.
