syphilis buttocks

This syphilis patient presented with a “roseola rash”, similar to that of viral eczema, which developed on her buttocks and legs during the secondary stage of the disease.

Secondary syphilis is the most contagious of all the stages, and is characterized by a systemic spread of the bacteria Treponema pallidum. The secondary rash usually does not cause itching, and can appear as the chancre, or chancres that are found during the primary stage of syphilis are healing, or several weeks after the primary chancre has healed.
